ACTS TRUST (ACTS – Agriculture, Crafts, Trades and Studies) India

ACTS India

Registered legally in Karnataka as a Charitable Trust, ACTS has more than 20 years experiences in all kind of capacity building. E-learning labs and stuff for training activities.5 years experience in urban ecosan slum upgrading: It was launching, implementing and operating the first public ecosan toilet center project in an Indian slum. The new toilet center has been constructed in a slum in Bangalore/India. It allows separated collection of urine and faeces. Urine is used directly as a fertilizer on an agricultural education campus. The faeces are professionally composted. The compost is used to grow medical plants on the campus as well as for banana production. A new sustainable development concept is being tested here, one, which tackles the problems of sewage water and faeces and creates an opportunity for one aspect of slum development: The income generated by the project (users fee, compost, bananas) can cover 50 % and more of the running cost of the toilet centers.

Main role in the project:
Acts will be responsible for knowledge integration and participation. It will also be responsible for the elaboration of "lessons learned", "best practices requirements" and "case study reporting" based on existing ecosan projects in India. ACTS will also be responsible for all kind of reuse aspects of urine and faecal matter since it has long-term experiences in the utilization of urine and faecal compost of digested sludge for agricultural production. Further on ACTS will be strongly involved in the "Face to Face" and the e-learning part of the action.

Stichting The Network University (Foundation The Network University) (TNU), Dutch

The Network University

The Network University (TNU) is a non-profit organisation whose mission statement is to make education accessible for people in so called Developing Countries. In most of cases the education is targeted to people who have a higher education background and who want/need to specialise themselves in a specified development issues. Therefore most of TNU's education is so called capacity building. TNU tries to achieve this goal by the use of Internet and other ICT resources.
Their specialisation in e-learning is the focused on the social process in learning. The programmes offered by TNU can only be attended in groups, but with individual subscription. Since people from all over the world participate in the courses, the intercultural communication, different levels of knowledge, experience, and positions play an important role in the learning process. In this way TNU facilitates the south-south transfer of knowledge.
In the Asian region TNU also developed the project "Poverty Reduction Through Sustainable Ecological Solutions: Linking Global Networks To Local Training Programmes". Here TNU linked local (or national) training institutes into a regional networking platform. The platform comprises of one training institutes in Bangladesh, three in India; and one in Nepal.

Main role in the project:
TNU was developing mainly the E-learning, and the webpage part of the proposed project.Main technical manager of the ecosan "Distance Trainings" and the ecosan Capacity webpage.
