Overall objectives:

  • To promote sustainable management of public wastewaters in Indian urban areas, preventing the pollution of water bodies.

  • To promote the implementation of ecological sanitation ("ecosan") facilities.

  • To improve the quality of life and living conditions in Indian's towns, cities and mega cities, particularly for the groups mostly affected by unsuitable sanitation systems (Dalit population/particularly women).

  • To close the nutrient loops between urban structures and surrounding agriculture land.

  • To strengthen links between EU and Asian experts to share good practice, policies, systems and technologies related to sustainable sanitation systems.

Specific objectives:

  • To increase the number of ecosan experts representing different institutional levels in India, who are able to implement ecosan projects on their own.

  • To increase awareness and to improve the know-how of local authorities, engineers and planners, NGOs, RTDs, related consultants and households, about adapted ecosan solutions.

  • To enhance the ecosan organisation-, implementation- and management capacity in India on the individual, institutional and inter-institutional level.

  • To access a higher governmental level in the promotion of ecosan technologies.

  • To support a participatory-, inter-institutional approach for locally adapted ecosan implementation, and to particularly support the Dalit involvement in the project.
